Foundation: Control the Low Point
Consistent contact happens when the lowest point of your swing is in front of the ball (with irons).
1. Line-in-the-Sand / Towel Drill
How:
- Draw a line on the ground (or place a towel 4–6 inches behind the ball)
- Set the ball just ahead of the line
- Strike the ball without touching the towel
Why it works:
Trains ball-then-turf contact. This is one of the fastest fixes for fat shots.

2. Impact Tape / Foot Spray Drill
How:
- Spray foot powder or use impact tape on the clubface
- Hit 5–10 balls
- Adjust setup until strikes cluster in the center
Pro Tip:
If you miss the center, don’t swing harder—slow down and shorten the swing.

3. Feet-Together Drill
How:
- Hit half shots with feet together
- Maintain balance through impact
Why it works:
Eliminates excessive sway and forces clean sequencing.

4. Handle-Forward Drill
How:
- At address, press hands slightly ahead of the ball
- Hit punch-style shots (50–70%)
Feel:
Hands lead, clubhead follows.
Result:
Crisp, compressed strikes—especially with irons.

5. Gate Drill (Tee Drill)
How:
- Place two tees just wider than the clubhead
- Swing through without touching either tee
Why:
Encourages centered delivery and cleaner impact.

6. 3-Second Backswing Drill
How:
- Count “1-2-3” on the backswing
- Swing through smoothly
Why:
Rushed transitions destroy contact. Tempo improves everything.

Goal:
Divot starts after the ball.
How:
- Hit balls focusing only on divot position
- Ignore ball flight at first

8. Brush the Grass Drill
How:
- Swing and brush the ground in the same spot repeatedly
- Move that spot slightly forward of center

Builds muscle memory for consistent low point.
